Platanias is found 60km south east of Volos and is yet another scenic fishing village of Pelion, and the port of Promiri.
Due to it is prominent location on the beach, over time; it has developed not just as a tourist resort, but the largest fishing center of south Pelion.
For this, you will find in Platanias an abundance of seasonal, freshly caught fish and seafood from the local fisherman. In the summer months there are water sports
and a sea taxi accessing the islands of the North Sporades and Agios Konstantinos on the mainland, as well as little excursion boats to the closer beaches.
The village is built along the length of the beach and elevated above the abundant olive groves.
Here nature practically touches the turquoise waters of the sea and the fine, clean sand. There are many shops and businesses with enough facilities to a peaceful and restful stay.
On the beach at Platanias you can also enjoy the idyllic dawn with sun rising out of the sea of Skiathos.
Very close by you’ll find Mikro (Little), a small, aquamarine beach with lush green vegetation down to the water’s edge.
The access is easy along a natural footpath, a beautiful walk taking around 10-15 minutes. Access is also possible with the little fishing boats, or by car.
Other well-known beaches in the area east of Platanias, are Vambakia, Ftelia, Radakia (known for its seal holes (sea caves), Kastri, Lepetous, Paliorakia, Bromoneri,
Blaxorema, Theotokos, Lyri and Mourtias. West of Platanias visitors can reach the beaches of Kaloidis, Krifolimnionas and Hondris Ammo (fat sand).
